Lock Bumping: A Growing Security Threat for which You can Provide Real Answers.

It’s no secret that over the past few years, a “locksmith technique” — lock bumping — has become public knowledge. Lock bumping incidents have occurred in virtually every part of the country and are on the rise, presenting increased danger to people and property everywhere. Experts estimate that over 90 percent of the locks now in use are vulnerable.

As you well know, virtually all lock manufacturers offer products that prevent bumping, to greater or lesser degrees, with different and often-confusing claims. This highlights the need for industry standards, and further prompted ASTM International to develop criteria for testing a pin tumbler cylinder’s ability to resist lock bumping techniques.
